While we wait to secure a new workshop space in Auckland, we are bringing the skills to you!  Choose the option that best suits your project, skill level, or curiosity: Woodwork ClassTool Class or Team DIY all at your Home.

Available to women across Auckland within 30 minutes’ drive / approx. 25 km from Waterview, Auckland. Locations outside this area subject to availability.

Woodwork Class @ Home

3 hours duration

 

Build confidence in a beginner-friendly, hands-on session building a set project, learning techniques and practical skills you can use in other woodworking and DIY projects.

This structured session is perfect for women who are complete beginners.  You will gain practical, hands-on experience, learn essential techniques, and develop the skills and confidence to tackle future woodworking or DIY projects. By the end, you’ll not only have a finished project, but also a solid foundation to continue building and creating on your own.

 

What You’ll Learn
  • timber basics, marking, measuring and squaring
  • saws (hand-saw, circular saw, jig saw)
  • drill and driver
  • hand-tools (hammer, mallet, chisel, etc)
  • electric planer and sander
  • screw/nail fixings
  • metal work, multi-tools and Dremmel (if there’s time)

 

What You’ll Finish With
  • a completed wētā Hotel (to keep or donate)
  • practical, transferable skills
  • confidence using tools safely and correctly

  • Use of our tools and equipment during your session*
  • PPE is mandatory and available to borrow or feel free provide your own (see ‘Health and Safety’ for details)

Tool Class @ Home

2 hours duration

 

A personalised, practical session designed for you to explore, experiment with, and try a variety of tools at your own pace. Build confidence, get comfortable with your equipment, and discover what sparks your DIY curiosity from the comfort of your own home.

This class is ideal for women who want to learn how to use hand and power tools safely, correctly, and confidently. Whether you already own tools or are just starting to think about which ones to buy, we’ll guide you through the essentials and help you make informed choices.

 

What You’ll Learn

We can cover timber basics, marking, measuring and squaring (if needed) but if you are starting from scratch, our ‘Build Class @ Home’ will be a better fit for you.

To make the most of your time, we suggest you choose 3 x power tools from the following:

  • Drill & Hammer Drill & Impact Driver
  • Circular Saw
  • Jigsaw
  • Planer
  • Orbital or other Sander
  • Oscillating Multitool
  • Router
  • Brad nailer
  • Angle Grinder

You’ll get to practice working with a variety of house materials including different timbers, Gib (plasterboard), MDF, hardboard, melamine, brick, tile and metals (if angle grinding).

Team DIY @ Home 

3 hours (minimum) / Available weekdays only

 

Perfect for tackling a project with skilled support. We come to your place, work alongside you, and guide you through a real DIY task you want to complete. You learn as you go with hands-on help, shared tools, and confidence-building coaching.

With TEAM DIY @ HOME, women get the support needed right where it’s needed. We join you on-site to help plan, problem-solve, and complete your chosen project safely and efficiently. You’ll gain practical skills, understand how to use the right tools for the job, and build confidence through real, hands-on experience. It’s the ideal way to get your project done now, while also learning how to do it yourself next time.

 

What We Teach and Assist With

Beginner-friendly, supervised DIY tasks such as:

  • Assembling flat-pack furniture
  • Cupboard door repairs & adjustments
  • Wall fixings (shelves, hooks, brackets)
  • Trims and mouldings
  • Small gib repairs
  • Prep for painting and finishing techniques
  • Small cabinetry jobs
  • Planter boxes 
  • Small shed builds
  • Pallet deconstruction/reconstruction

 

What We Don’t Do

This is a learning and guided DIY service, not a labour-only contractor service.  We do not provide:

  • Roofing or work above one storey
  • Structural work requiring Council consent
  • Licensed electrical, gas, or plumbing work
  • Major renovations or demolition
  • Digging
  • Painting
  • Landscaping
  • Appliance repairs

 

What’s Included:
  • Pre-job call or online video discussion (up to 15 mins) – Further consultation is charged at the hourly rate.
  • Hands-on support + guided learning
  • Instruction in safe and effective DIY techniques
  • Common tools and equipment supplied*
  • Assistance sourcing materials
    • You may pre-purchase, or
    • We can shop for you at the hourly rate
  • PPE (eye and ear protection) is mandatory and available to borrow, buy or you provide your own (see ‘Health and Safety’ for details)

Materials:
  • Materials and consumables are the client’s responsibility.
  • We can supply small sundries (e.g., glue, screw and nail fixings) at an additional charge.

Health & Safety Requirements

 

We take health and safety seriously so to ensure everyone has a safe and productive session:

  • Any workspace must be clear, accessible, and well-lit
  • PPE is mandatory (safety glasses, hearing protection and dust mask where appropriate). See below.
  • Children not permitted in the work area
  • Tasks involving unsafe conditions, hazards, or excessive risk may be declined

 

We have eye, ear and hand protection available to borrow, you may BYO or you may purchase individually:

  • 3M Foldable Earmuffs — $55
  • Safety Glasses — $8 (standard)
  • DNC Safety Glasses $10 (over prescription glasses)
  • Cut resistant gloves $12
  • Dust mask $4

If you wear prescription glasses, please advise us so that appropriate eye protection can be supplied.
